It has a maximum of 20 hours of fresh, original writing - the rest is just nuisance. The game doesn't have 40 hours of fresh content. And then you'll most likely have to do it again.Ī worryingly large amount of reviewers have 40+ hours in the game. It's not an exaggeration to say this portion can take up to 2 hours or more before you catch up to where you were before the restart. This means restarting and sitting through the intro quote, prologue and initial chapters - which atmospheric at first, are now frustratingly slow text crawls and transitions and scenes you've read before. There will come a point in the later chapters where an opaque choice you made earlier will ruin your entire run. That requires a lot of trial and error and the game discourages experimentation due to its boneheaded insistence on making every run an Ironman run. So now you want to start exploring some of the zanier political paths, like a being a secret police wielding dictator or a communist. Or maybe you used a walkthrough - I didn't but it's okay either way. Maybe in your second one you learned to avoid the mistakes you made the first time around and clutched a better outcome. Your first playthrough will end in failure, most likely. I can't recommend however a game that doesn't respect your time. Good for one or two playthroughs if you get it on sale. There's other reviews you can read if you want to know about the plot and worldbuilding. Interesting world and narrative, if a bit derivative of Cold War era nations and ideologies.
